There isn’t long left before the January transfer window slams shut, with Celtic hoping to conclude some much-needed last-minute deals.
Whilst the fans crave for that all-important striker, for those players to come in, you would expect the books will be balanced and players will also be moved out.
Well, it seems as though David Turnbull, who is a fringe player under Brendan Rodgers, could be heading for the Celtic exit door.
John Hartson certainly thinks he is on his way out and he highlighted how his game time will remain ‘limited’ if he stays at Parkhead beyond the January transfer window, as he told Go Radio.
The 24-year-old does have seven Premiership goals to his name this season, mainly from the penalty spot, but he has only started eight games and has played just 30 minutes since being hooked off at half-time of Celtic’s defeat to Hearts in December.
That’s a clear sign that he doesn’t have a future at the club, with Championship side Cardiff City keen on the player.
Whatever happens, John Hartson thinks David Turnbull, for the best of his own career, needs to leave Celtic.
David Turnbull’s Celtic future
“I think he is (on his way out), also with the resurgence of Bernardo, you have Hatate to come back, O’Riley and McGregor,” said Hartson.
“I think his game time will just continue to be limited. He is okay when he comes off the bench and has a few goals.
“But, in terms of the lad wanting to go out and make a name for himself and build his career again, if you like. I think the best way forward for David Turnbull is to move on because he can’t be guaranteed first-team football.”

Clearing the squad
There are a lot of players who have been provided with enough chances, but just aren’t cutting it to take the team forward.
Someone like Turnbull can’t argue that he hasn’t been backed or pushed, because he has, he just hasn’t taken his chance and that’s on him.
Celtic can no longer sympathise with these players. They need to be ruthless. Get them off the wage bill and bring in players who can continue to take the club forward, especially in Europe.
If Turnbull doesn’t leave before Thursday’s cut-off point, then he is only harming his career because he will remain stuck on the bench, at best.
