Celtic could potentially be in the market for a striker this window as Brendan Rodgers looks to give support to Kyogo Furuhashi in attack.
Furuhashi is the only senior option on the books at Parkhead right now who is naturally a centre-forward due to Hyeongyu Oh and Daizen Maeda’s involvement at the AFC Asian Cup.
Irish boss Rodgers has hinted that movement into the club could occur by the deadline; however, he didn’t specify in which position he may look to add any bodies in the coming days.
The 51-year-old stated after his side’s narrow victory over Ross County: “Hopefully there’s movement, that’s the plan. Getting that player in who can help our level and allow us to develop. We will see over the coming days, but hopefully that’s the case.”
In terms of potential targets, Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk looks to be getting the most traction at present due to his uncertain future at the Serie A club.
Over the course of the last few weeks, Mathias Kvistgaarden, Lawrence Shankland and Bojan Miovski, among others, have also been floated in the Bhoys’ search for a new number nine.
Either way, there is a palpable sense of expectation among supporters as they wait to see if the Scottish Premiership holders will bolster their ranks.
John Hartson tips Celtic to pursue Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski
John Hartson knows a thing or two about hitting the back of the net in Celtic colours and has advised his old club to pursue a move for Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski, who has hit 17 goals and four assists in 32 appearances this term [Transfermarkt].
Speaking to the Sunday Post (28/01, print edition) relayed via Football Scotland, Hartson stated: “I’ve seen Bojan Miovski a few times and I really like the look of him. I think he’d do well at Celtic. He has been a regular goalscorer for Aberdeen and knows what it takes at this level and for his country, Macedonia.
“Bojan has a nice first touch, holds the ball up well and brings others into play. He also powers towards goal when the time is right and causes defenders all sorts of problems.
“In terms of a transfer fee, different numbers have been mentioned, from £3million to £6m. The bottom line is that Aberdeen will have their value and any interested club will know what they think he’s worth. Personally, I’d have him in the bracket between £3.5m and £4m. That would be good business.”
Aberdeen’s Bojan Miovski would tick a lot of boxes for Celtic
Miovski has certainly been impressive for Aberdeen this campaign and would be a shrewd signing for Celtic.
Nonetheless, Barry Robson has recently reiterated his desire to keep the North Macedonia international at Pittodrie [The Irish News].
As per Sofascore, the 24-year-old has taken on around 2.8 shots per match in the Scottish top flight this term and possesses a goal tally of around 0.5 per league fixture.
The former MTK Budapest forward is a different proposition to Furuhashi and can hold the ball up efficiently alongside getting on the end of crosses.
With the window ticking into its dying embers, it seems unlikely that the Hoops will be able to bring Miovski to Parkhead; however, we will need to wait and see whether there is movement on that front before the close of play.
