Johnny Kenny has addressed his future beyond this season at Bolton Wanderers.
The striker has excelled since leaving Celtic on loan to join the League One side. He has scored in each of their four games since the end of the international break.
Understandably, Wanderers fans are already clamouring for him to stay at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, but where do Kenny’s ambitions lie?
He was asked about his future beyond this season, which could still see the Lancashire club promoted to the Championship via the play-offs.

Celtic’s Johnny Kenny on his ‘burning desire’ to continue form
On Celtic, Kenny told The Bolton News: “I fully believe Celtic have the winners in the dressing room and have the winners in the dugout.
“But I don’t look too far ahead. I’d love to get promoted here and win up there for an all-around season.

“For now, I just want to score goals and get this club back to the Championship and then hopefully in the summer go back in with a burning desire to pick up where I left off.”
On how his season has gone, he said: “It’s been a whirlwind, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it.
“It’s probably one of the weirdest seasons of my career but probably, I would say, one of the best for the learnings and the experiences.
“At the end of August when we signed [Kelechi Iheanacho], I thought I was going to struggle for minutes, but I got opportunities and I’ve done pretty well. I’ve scored goals for Celtic, I’ve scored in a Glasgow derby.
“I played a lot, started a lot of games and then [after] just two or three games of not being clinical [or] ruthless in front of goal, it changed, and I came down here to Bolton, and I think I started life pretty well.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge and it’s time to step up. We need to put the work in so we get to the opportunity of the play-offs and then in a play-off, I’d fancy ourselves against anyone.
“That was my desire. I wasn’t coming down here just to relax. I just wanted to come here to work and to apply my trade the best way possible because I know if I do that, we can get the results we want.”

The Celtic career of Johnny Kenny
Kenny’s career at Celtic began in January 2022 when he signed a five-year contract after a breakout season at Sligo Rovers, but after a series of loans, he wouldn’t make his debut until three years later.
His first goal for the club arrived in a 5–1 win away at Aberdeen in May 2025, and he was rewarded for his development with a new four-year contract in August last year.
After Martin O’Neill’s interim arrival, he enjoyed a run of form that included two goals in the 74-year-old’s first match against Falkirk and a vital headed opener in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final win over Rangers.
Kenny references the period when he wasn’t “clinical or ruthless in front of goal” – this proved costly to his momentum this season.
