Celtic won’t be making a move for Jonny Evans or Scott McTominay this summer, it has been reported this evening.
The Liverpool Echo stated this weekend that Brendan Rodgers was keen on reuniting with free agent Evans, who played under the new Celtic boss at Leicester City.
Manchester United midfielder McTominay, meanwhile, has been a much-discussed potential option for the Bhoys throughout the transfer window, generating lots of headlines, pundit reaction and fan discussion.
Football Scotland reports that no Celtic offer has been made to Evans and that the Northern Ireland defender is keen on staying in England for the new season.
Journalist Mark Hendry also adds that he has had it confirmed that McTominay will not be making a move to Celtic Park this summer, having initially been told even loan would be ‘a stretch’.
Meanwhile, a rumour about Celtic interest in Donny van de Beek has also been put to bed by the outlet. That won’t be happening either.
Celtic continue to do transfer work. Official announcements for South Korean pair Yang Hyun-jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu are imminent after both their clubs revealed switches to Scotland are happening.
Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio have both arrived from Norway and Australia, too, as the club embark on an aggressive transfer strategy of bringing in players who hold significant future potential.
It’s expected that more signings will be made between now and the end of August, with Celtic possessing big resources to directly strengthen Rodgers’ starting eleven.
No real, concrete transfer links to more expensive options have really been reported, but the club have made it clear with the appointment of Rodgers that there is an ambitious vision for the Bhoys moving forward.
There’s plenty of time left in the window but fans will want to see quality signings made quite quickly, with the Scottish Premiership season opener now just three weeks away.
