Jota latest as Portuguese media clear up reported Celtic sticking point

The sell-on percentage Benfica want for Jota in his move to Celtic is not a sticking point in discussions between the two clubs, Portuguese outlet A Bola has reported today.

Last week, it was reported by Sky Sports that negotiations are ongoing regarding the deal to make his loan move from Portugal permanent.

It was said the Portuguese club were looking to add “a significant future sell-on percentage” to the deal. That’s led to opinion pieces and punditry remarks in other outlets suggesting that Celtic must accept their demands.

However, A Bola’s report today states that this 30% sell-on percentage was always included in his loan agreement, meaning this is not what is holding up the announcement of the switch.

The Portuguese outlet appears to believe that the move is almost inevitable, with the details still being finalised amongst all parties. For what it’s worth, Benfica fans on social media this afternoon also appear resigned to losing a homegrown talent they admire.

I understand this is all a bit pedantic on my part, but the small details in these reports matter and it’s all to demonstrate that the situation is likely progressing a lot more smoothly than it would appear from the outside.

No indication we should be worried about Jota to Celtic

It feels like an age since Celtic lifted the Scottish Premiership trophy at Paradise, but realistically it was only a couple of weeks ago and the players not on international duty are still on holiday. So is Ange Postecoglou.

In the void, it’s easy as a passionate supporter for anxiety to take over. You run through all the permutations. You remember the failed move for Fraser Forster. Nothing is ever guaranteed in football.

However, there really is no indication that Jota won’t be a Celtic player next season. Every report in Scotland and Portugal recently has suggested it’s on the brink.

I suspect we’ll be rewarded for the waiting game with a class announcement we all love.
