Celtic striker Hyeongyu Oh is now on the brink of leaving Parkhead following recent developments surrounding his future.

The South Korea international has registered 12 goals in 47 appearances during his spell at the Bhoys; nevertheless, he has been second-fiddle behind Kyogo Furuhashi for much of the time.

Earlier in the window, Genk were reported to be frontrunners for Oh’s signature. Celtic turfed out an initial offer for the forward; however, it was said they would return with vengeance.

Swansea City have emerged as another suitor for the 23-year-old; however, his next steps appear to have become clear, courtesy of journalist Sacha Tavolieri’s recent findings.

Genk ‘closing the deal’ to sign Hyeongyu Oh from Celtic

According to Tavolieri’s official X account, Genk are ‘closing the deal’ with Celtic to bring Oh to the Belgian top-flight, and it is believed there is only a ‘matter of time’ before his exit is officially ratified.

He stated: “#KRCGenk currently closing the deal with #CelticFC for Hyeon-Gyu Oh! Matter of time.”

With a cloud hanging over his future after Adam Idah’s impact in the second half of last term, Oh’s departure looks like a move that will be beneficial for all parties. Yes, he has shown flashes of talent, but is is clear he won’t be a first-choice striker under Brendan Rodgers.

One wonders whether this could have a knock-on impact on the Bhoys’ pursuit of Idah. Despite his loan spell at Parkhead expiring, negotiations continue over the prospect of a permanent deal for the Republic of Ireland international.

It is hard to know where things stand at this stage. Celtic have been ultra-quiet on the subject of transfers, with little information coming into the public eye regarding targets.

Nevertheless, this is a solid indication that plates are starting to spin at Parkhead during what has felt like a long few weeks.
