Celtic’s lack of transfer business has seriously annoyed the fans this January.

With Celtic closing in on Tomas Cvancara, the second winter signing should be in Martin O’Neill’s squad sooner rather than later.

Celtic have been linked with numerous players, but the rumours often fizzle out into nothing leaving fans frustrated.

But has this been the case? Is it Celtic’s organisation that is the problem or is there something else working against the Parkhead club?

Journalist Michael Grant shares what he’s being told by people not connected to Celtic who have ‘sympathy’ for the Parkhead club’s transfer cause.

People not connected to Celtic are ‘sympathetic’ on transfers

Grant is a well-established journalist with a variety of contacts within the game and here, he tells how Celtic are garnering sympathy from people outside the club as transfer links fizzle out to nothing.

Grant told The Scottish Football Podcast, “Yeah, it’s interesting, I did a big piece on this at the weekend and speaking to a few people, who are actually non-Celtic people, but who are kind of in the business and who have actually been sympathetic to Celtic, believe it or not.

“And I know their fans are up in arms and on fire about this, but a couple of people that spoke to me were kind of sympathetic because they said, the level of striker that Celtic are looking at, are players that might think they have a chance of going to the English Premier League.”

Hopes of English Premier League money is damaging Celtic’s transfer business

That may well be the case, but there are other clubs who are completing transfer business with ease this January.

But it seems the promise of Premier League riches is just too much for some.

Grant continued, “And if they feel they’ve got a chance of going to the Premier League in January, they’ll hold on and they’ll wait until they see if that chance might materialise.

“And of course, that leaves Celtic hanging on. And then that’s why you often see business done at the end of the window when that player realises, you know, okay, I’m not going to get it.

“I know England is not the be all and end all, but the wages they can offer down there are substantial.”

With one player on the way to Celtic, fans will be hoping that Martin O’Neill has a few other aces up his sleeve before the window slams shut in February.
