Kasper Dolberg could have joined Celtic, now Ajax suffer their biggest ‘humiliation’ in 100 years

One of the men who could have solved Celtic’s striker issues was Kasper Dolberg.

Celtic’s summer transfer window was heading into chaos, with no striker in the building, and then the links to Dolberg emerged.

You could even argue that Brendan Rodgers would still be at Celtic if Dolberg had moved to Glasgow, but instead, he returned to Amsterdam and joined Ajax from Anderlecht.

But whilst Celtic are in a bigger hole than the one they were in during the summer, things aren’t exactly going well for Dolberg at Ajax, because it’s just as bad.

Would you take Roberto Martinez as Celtic’s permanent manager after the World Cup?

Kasper Dolberg and Ajax suffer ‘unprecedented humiliation’ after 6-0 loss to AZ Alkmaar

Ajax have been declining for several years now, as they haven’t been Dutch champions since 2022, and they have also been without a major trophy during that time.

That wait will now go on because on Wednesday night, Ajax were beaten 6-0 by AZ Alkmaar, as they bowed out of the Dutch Cup in an embarrassing fashion, with Dolberg starting up top.

The Dutch giants’ interim coach, Fred Grim, stated that they are ‘ashamed’ by what has happened, and the media called it ‘unprecedented humiliation’, as posted by The Daily Mail.

Troy Parrott netted a hat-trick to pile the misery on the 36-time Dutch champions, who plan to refund their supporters after suffering their worst loss in 100 years.

You wonder if life would have been different for Celtic if they had signed Dolberg because he was the profile of the player Rodgers and fans were craving for.

It was understandable why the Denmark international returned to a place where it all started, but it’s not going to plan.

Now, the champions of Celtic are being linked with every striker under the sun. From Callum Wilson to David Datro Fofana.
