Ryan McDonald says that Celtic outdid interest from Italy and Germany to sign Kasper Hogh.
The striker is the club’s new record signing at £11 million, and has signed a four-year deal with the option of another at Celtic Park.
Martin O’Neill’s attack has been in desperate need of reinforcements, so the addition of a player with the pedigree of Hogh has been hugely well-received by supporters.
The striker reportedly prioritised Celtic over a move to bigger European leagues his summer.

Kasper Hogh’s first choice was Celtic
McDonald said on the Record Celtic Podcast: “What I have heard is that there was interest from Italy and Germany in the player this summer.
“But from what I understand, his first choice was Celtic.

“It’s the type of signing that Celtic fans have been craving. It’s the type of striker that Celtic have been craving for so long now.
“It’s been 18 months since Kyogo left, and they haven’t really filled that void. With Daizen Maeda leaving, they really had to add new options up there.”
Hogh is a long-term target for the Hoops, having been targeted by O’Neill during the January transfer window.
Celtic’s January interest in Hogh coincided with his rapid increase in profile in January as he made his mark on elite European football.
He managed five goals as Bodo reached the round of 16 in the Champions League, netting against Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and hitting a brace against Manchester City.
His heroics against Inter contributed to the biggest giant-killing of the competition, as the 2025 finalists were eliminated by Kjetil Knutsen’s side.
The season prior, he finished as joint-top goalscorer as the Norwegian side reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.
It’s an extremely impressive CV for a 2026 Celtic signing, and you have to take your hat off for the club for pulling it off.
