Norwich City have scouted Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer as they look to build a squad capable of performing in the English Premier League, The Scottish Sun reports.

The paper says that Canaries director of football Stuart Webber has been watching the Norwegian international. They see him as a viable centre-half to help their top-flight bid.

Encouragingly for Celtic, the club could still command an eight-figure fee for the player despite his contract status, with £10m quoted.

Norwich will be flush with cash this summer due to their Premier League status and potentially selling attacking midfielder Emi Buendia for £30m.

Kristoffer Ajer Celtic exit looks inevitable

With just a year left on his contract, an uncertain situation at Celtic and no sign of him putting pen to paper on a new deal, the defender’s exit from the club looks inevitable this summer.

It then becomes about receiving the best possible fee for the player. If multiple clubs are interested from big leagues, then Celtic will be in a reasonably strong position.

Bayer Leverkusen, who recently bought Jeremie Frimpong, are also said to be keen on Ajer.

It’s easy to see Celtic receiving a healthy fee. Ajer has talent, incredible experience for his age and the potential to improve further. We shouldn’t sell ourselves short here.

Ajer has been a great player for the Bhoys. Yes, there have been defensive frustrations at times, but all-in he’s been a fantastic signing.

The club will do well to replace him in the transfer market this summer, make no mistake.

Whether our recruitment team is up to it is another matter.
