It’s pretty weird seeing Kyogo Furuhashi in the colour of blue.

But the Celtic hero has found a new home after leaving Rennes and joining newly-promoted Birmingham City in England’s second tier.

This isn’t the first time Birmingham and Celtic have conducted transfer business because, last summer, Tomoki Iwata joined the Blues from the green and white of Glasgow.

Iwata has proven to be a huge success, and Kyogo will be hoping to follow in his countryman’s footsteps after being confirmed as Birmingham’s latest summer signing on Saturday.

Led by former Celtic man Chris Davies, and being pushed by NFL legend Tom Brady in the boardroom, their task is to make a return to the Premier League, and they have called for Kyogo’s goals.

Kyogo Furuhashi lauds Celtic fans after signing for Birmingham City

Yes, the Celtic Park faithful were surprised when Kyogo joined Rennes in January, from a Champions League club, to a relegation battle in France.

But the 30-year-old is still highly regarded in Glasgow after around four years of dominant success and service for Scotland’s most successful club.

After being paraded out by Birmingham, Kyogo was asked about his legendary spell at Celtic, and the fans will love his response, as posted by Blues TV.

Kyogo is asked: “The Blues supporters will remember the success you had at Celtic, where you were prolific over four seasons. How much did you enjoy your time there?”

Kyogo then responded: “I have good memories with a lot of titles, so it was a wonderful three and a half, four years.

“Lots of fans still say hi to me, so I felt I was really lucky. But this is a new place and I would like to do my best here.”

Kyogo’s legendary time at Celtic in numbers

Nobody is ever going to be better than the King of Kings, Henrik Larsson, but there could always be the argument of who is the next best?

Kyogo comes into that argument straight away, and for quite a lot of supporters, he is the best since Larsson after joining the club from Vissel Kobe in 2021.

Celtic are very grateful for Ange Postecoglou because he was the one who brought in Kyogo, and the rest is history.
