Liam Scales impressed massively in Europe this week; path could now be clear for Celtic move

Reported Celtic target Liam Scales continues to make a name for himself at Shamrock Rovers after massively impressing in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying this week.

Scales, 23, has played the majority of his career football at centre-half in Ireland. However, recently for Rovers he’s being deployed more and more as a left wing-back.

That was the case on Thursday night in Albania, as he helped his side through to the playoff round with two assists in a 2-0 away win against KF Teuta.

Rovers will now play Flora of Estonia for a shot at the group stages, but it could well be without Scales.

Celtic are reportedly in talks to sign the talent, as we’ve discussed on 67 Hail Hail already this month. Those talks are said to have progressed well, but that the Irish side had been keen to use his services in the tie against Teuta.

Now that is out of the way, a move to the Bhoys could be a goer. If his performance in Albania was a farewell one, it couldn’t have really gone better.

Supporters in Ireland sense exit for Celtic target Liam Scales

That’s certainly the feeling amongst supporters in Ireland, who have been paying tribute to Scales on social media this week.

There’s definitely a growing consensus that he’s destined for bigger things than the League of Ireland, whether it be at Celtic or elsewhere.

It’s a situation to watch closely as Ange Postecoglou continues to look for more depth and numbers in his squad from the transfer market.

These supporters have taken to Twitter over the last few days to share their thoughts on Scales’ situation…
