Liel Abada’s Celtic exit is looking like a £10m masterstroke for the Hoops

Liel Abada’s departure from Celtic was meant to represent a clean start to his career, but the reality is, since leaving Glasgow, the winger’s impact at Charlotte FC has not lived up to his promise.

Abada was a major part of wrestling the league title back from Rangers under Ange Postecoglou at Celtic and after his £10m move in 2024, the winger has struggled to capture the form that made him a huge Parkhead favourite.

But now, it seems like Abada is set to leave Charlotte FC and reunite with a former Celtic teammate.

Would you take Abada back at Celtic right now, or has that moment passed?

Liel Abada set to join ex-Celtic teammate Greg Taylor at PAOK

PAOK are currently in talks with Charlotte FC over a potential move, with English clubs also monitoring developments, reports the Daily Record.

Abada’s contract at Charlotte FC expires in December but the MLS club has a year’s option that they could trigger.

While no deal is yet to be completed, it looks like PAOK could get Abada for a cut-price deal which makes the £10m Celtic received for the attacker look like a great piece of business.

Celtic still defines Abada more than anything since his departure

Two years on from leaving Celtic, Abada has remained a regular squad option for Charlotte FC, but he has never really reached the scoring heights he did while in Glasgow.

With 77 MLS appearances, Abada has scored just 13 goals and created just seven assists.

Compare and contrast that to his time at Celtic, in 112 appearances the winger hit the back of the net on 29 occasions and created 22 goals for his Hoops teammates.

Remarkably, Abada is still only 24 years old and has his peak years ahead of him.

A move to PAOK with Greg Taylor as a familiar face could spark his career back into the player Celtic fans loved during his trophy-laden time at Parkhead.
