The Liel Abada transfer update that doesn’t tell the full Celtic story

Liel Abada’s next transfer move is taking shape, but it should not change how his time at Celtic is judged.

There is a habit of looking at where a player ends up and using that to define their entire career. That approach does not hold up when it comes to Abada and what he actually delivered at Celtic.

Abada moved onto Charlotte FC and while his career has shifted, where he is expected to end up next does not rewrite the level he reached when he was in Glasgow.

Would you take Abada back at Celtic right now, or has that moment passed?

Where he is now is not where he was at Celtic

There is confirmed interest from Championship clubs keen on Liel Abada, with Birmingham City and Norwich City both linked.

That interest comes while he is a Charlotte FC winger, which makes the recent transfer links outside the level he previously operated at in European competitions with Celtic.

And while this rumour reflects how the market currently views him, it does not mean that this diminishes the talent that Abada has and proved at Celtic Park.

Players move through different stages in their careers and those stages are not always upward. Abada’s current position is one part of that, not the full picture.

Liel Abada’s Celtic impact should not be rewritten

His current deal expires at the end of 2026, with an option to extend it to December 2027, which means Abada’s next move is likely to come within this level of the market.

That situation is separate from what he produced when he was at Celtic. He was a direct attacking option who consistently contributed in the final third and played a clear role in the side.

That version of the player is the one that should define how his time at the club is viewed. And let’s not forget how he terrorised Rangers during his time at Celtic.

Looking at his next step and using it to downgrade that contribution does not reflect what actually happened on the pitch.

The current interest simply shows where he is now. It does not erase where he has already been.

Abada’s Celtic spell stands on its own and it should be judged on that basis.
