Enrique Palma — the father of Luis — has shared the latest on the winger’s proposed move to Celtic.

Honduran international Palma seems increasingly likely to sign for Celtic in the coming days. He has already said goodbye to his Aris Thessaloniki team-mates and is ready to fly to Scotland.

Things have moved fast in the deal. We only heard about Palma for the first time on Wednesday. Now, he could be announced as a Celtic player in a matter of days.

The attacker certainly seems to think the deal is going to happen, as his father shared what he has heard in a slightly unusual news story.

“Luis’ biggest dream in his life has always been to play in the Champions League in Europe and now he will get to do that with Celtic,” he said. (Daily Record)

“When he called me to tell me about the transfer to Scotland, I told him how proud I was of him. Although I made it clear that it’s important he keeps his feet on the ground because his path still has a long way to go.

“He has matured a lot in recent years. Now he will play in the Champions League – the world’s greatest tournament. I will be a very proud dad.

“I believe he will travel to Scotland over the weekend.”

So it does seem like this transfer is pretty much done, and Palma could be unveiled early next week.

He does seem to have pretty good pedigree, having netted 11 goals in 29 league matches last season, plus a number of strikes in European competition.

Palma plays predominantly on the left and is likely to be viewed as the successor to Jota. That will be no easy task for him and expectations will be high.

However, we should also remember that the Portuguese star wasn’t exactly a household name when he first arrived in Glasgow in 2021.

Palma has pace, trickery, free-kick prowess and an eye for goal. If he comes in and makes us forget about Jota, this new agile Celtic transfer policy will have worked a treat.
