Maik Nawrocki’s situation at Celtic becomes clear as Auston Trusty deal nears

Celtic look to be getting their house in order by the deadline and Brendan Rodgers will have a good idea of what his squad will look like by 11 p.m.

Outgoings are set to be a key part of that, with squad space needing to be cleared to ensure room for new arrivals.

Tomoki Iwata looks set to depart, and he could have the opportunity to reunite with former Celtic assistant Chris Davies at Birmingham City after failing to establish himself as a starter in Glasgow.

Joining Sead Haksabanovic, Hyeongyu Oh, and Gustaf Lagerbielke among others in leaving the club, it remains to be seen what other players could leave as part of Brendan Rodgers’ mission to have a smaller squad with a more laser-focused emphasis on quality.

Now, the latest potential casualty of the window could be on his way out at Celtic Park amid interest in his services from elsewhere.

Maik Nawrocki could be allowed to depart on loan

Taking to social media platform X, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has revealed Maik Nawrocki could join Iwata in potentially leaving the club as they close in on the signing of Sheffield United defender Auston Trusty.

He stated: “Celtic’s Maik Nawrocki & Tomoki Iwata could be allowed to leave on loan. There’s options for both players, who will move further down the pecking order once deals are completed for Arne Engels & Auston Trusty. Celtic are also looking to bring in another midfielder before 11pm.”

Intriguingly, Joseph has maintained that Celtic are aiming for another midfielder in the door before the deadline tonight.

However, Nawrocki could well spend the season elsewhere amid a constant battle with injury issues since joining from Legia Warsaw last summer, limiting him to just 13 appearances in green and white.

Unfortunately, despite his level of talent, the Polish defender at Celtic has never been able to fully get going. Fitness problems have meant Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers sit above him in the pecking order. At the same time, Trusty’s prospective arrival will likely kill off his chances of making an impact.

With that in mind, it may be best for both parties to spend some time apart in the hope he discovers his best form elsewhere.
