Eirik Horneland, manager of Celtic target Birger Meling, doesn’t expect any departures from Rosenborg in the final few days of the transfer window, Norwegian outlet TV2 report.

The Norwegian international has been consistently linked with a move to Glasgow for a number of weeks now.

The Scottish Sun had previously reported that Meling had been scouted by the Hoops as recently as last Wednesday.

Horneland though has issued a pretty defiant response to speculation, despite his club’s exit from the UEFA Champions League this week.

As quoted by TV2, he said: “Rosenborg is always associated with good Norwegian players, there is no doubt about that.

“There is no one on the way in and no one on the way out. There are a few days left, so I think it will be the way it looks now.”

What next for the Hoops?

Celtic badly need another left-back option to replace Kieran Tierney, who left for Arsenal earlier this month.

If Meling is truly unavailable then we must move on quickly to other targets and get one of them through the door.

Neil Lennon suggested on Wednesday that there are ‘quite a number’ of players they’ve been monitoring for the position. It’s unlikely we’ve put all our eggs in the Meling basket.

With Killie boss Angelo Alessio admitting talks are underway with regards to a Greg Taylor departure (The Scottish Sun), that probably looks like our most likely option.

Optimism remains high we can get the business we need done. However, with Monday’s deadline looming, there’s certainly urgency now.
