Marcelo Saracchi brutally bombed out by Boca Juniors as Celtic wait goes on

Marcelo Saracchi has been forced to train alone by Boca Juniors, with the club not intending to use him after his loan at Celtic.

Celtic reportedly still haven’t put an offer on the table for Saracchi after his loan move ended with a league and cup double.

Well-liked by Martin O’Neill, the defender made 27 appearances across the season, a figure that undoubtedly would’ve been higher had it not been for injury.

Many in the Parkhead support would be in favour of the move becoming permanent, but this is yet to be put into action.

Marcelo Saracchi training alone at Boca Juniors

Reports in South America via The National say that Saracchi has been told he is not part of Boca’s plans, as he trains separately from their squad.

He has been made available for a transfer or loan.

Previous reports have said that Saracchi could be available for less than £2 million, making the transfer a no-brainer if Celtic want continuity.

Manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena is keen to free up a space for a foreign player in his squad ahead of the Torneo Clausura.

Saracchi spent much of the season as backup to Kieran Tierney, though given the latter’s injury record, his role in the squad remained important.

An 11-time Uruguay international, Saracchi captained his country for the first time last October but isn’t part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad for the World Cup.

In an impressive playing career, he has also played for RB Leipzig, Galatasaray and River Plate, being limited by injury in his early days in Europe.

Saracchi’s agent has encouraged him to stay at Celtic, though he has already been linked with clubs in Turkey and elsewhere in Argentina.

Charlie Mulgrew on Celtic’s Marcelo Saracchi

Charlie Mulgrew recently told the Go Radio Football Show: “I think Saracchi… his performance against Hearts on the last day of the league was unbelievable.

“The desire he showed to go and make something happen in the match…

“He’s somebody that I would love to see sign for Celtic. I’m not sure what the price of that will be… two or three million…

“He was brilliant. He was beating players, he was dribbling by players. It was a desire and a determination and an aura that he gave off.

“He done it a few times. He done it against Dundee, set up the winner (by Kelechi Iheanacho) during the season. Every time he came on he helped.

“I would argue that you could even play him as a left-winger at times, he can cover a couple of positions.
