Marcelo Saracchi has found himself quite popular with the Celtic fans.

And by the looks of things, he’s found himself quite popular with Martin O’Neill too.

Competing with Kieran Tierney for the left-back spot, Saracchi has made 19 appearances since joining on loan from Boca Juniors.

So is a permanent stay on the cards? His agent, Marcelo Tejera, has given some brilliant insight.

Marcelo Saracchi agent’s brilliant Celtic insight

On Carve Deportiva, Tejera was asked if Uruguayan giants Nacional and Penarol had tried to sign Saracchi, replying: “Yes, Nacional and Penarol, both.”

On Celtic, he continued: “It came up at Celtic, Marcelo [was] fascinated, Celtic are delighted with him.

“I even have a meeting tomorrow (today) with the CEO of Celtic because they want to start moving forward regarding the purchase.

“Let’s see how things go from here until the end of the loan. If it’s good to leave it there, then it’s good that he can go to a team in England who called me.

“Or some other Brazilian team. Because what I’m telling you is: playing for a team as big as Celtic, playing in the Europa League, gives you more visibility, flexibility, which is what is being focused on.

“Because nobody today in football is controlled by the scout. Not even the directors know how to handle it or anything.

“The scouts, they watch, they’re watching all day long, matches and analysing every minute that you play. So if he plays… it’s not the same on an Argentinian team, [as] a team who is the greatest in Scotland.

“He came in, the team is doing very well, the coach is… crazy about him. There is a very interesting anecdote…

“Good news from the coach, Martin O’Neill, who is historic. In the first match I visited, he didn’t know the [team]…

“So he made him a starter, and at half-time he asked: ‘Who are you? Who are you that you play so well and I don’t know you?’

“Imagine, in the first match! And the other day, against Stuttgart, it was half-time and he shook his hand in front of the whole group, congratulating him.

“I was explaining to Saracchi: ‘this is not normal, that in England, that a coach of Martin O’Neill’s level does this with a player.”
