The January transfer window is open wide but there is still no striker blowing in Celtic’s direction.
Martin O’Neill’s latest confession about how prepared Celtic are for this transfer window will shock fans as the Hoops boss reveals he’s the one who is making the phone calls to get players.
It’s a sorry state of affairs that is clearly coming back to bite Celtic as the club sits third in the Scottish Premiership table struggling to defend their title.
How good has Yang been this past month?
But as Celtic supporters wait for a striker to be added to the ranks, Mark Guidi has shared the player who O’Neill will simply not sell this January.

Hyunjun Yang ‘will not be sold’ by Celtic
Hyunjun Yang has been enjoying a stellar season at Celtic as the South Korean looks like a reborn player under O’Neill.
And with rumours that Celtic captain Callum McGregor could leave for Saudi Arabia, it’s Yang who is the player Guidi says O’Neill won’t let depart.
Guidi told The Go Radio Football Show, “It was a fabulous goal. And I have to say, the improvement in Yang’s game is down to Martin O’Neill.
“Martin O’Neill really took a shine to Yang, encouraged him to go and be brave, one on one, use his pace.
“He’s very strong as well. He’s got good strength. And I see today, there’s been reports saying that Yang’s a target for various clubs down south and maybe across Europe.
“I’m not surprised at that, but he will not be sold. He will not be sold in this window.”
Hyunjun Yang’s super Celtic season
Yang has been the first name on O’Neill’s team sheet in his first spell, and that theme is continuing under the Celtic boss’ second interim spell.
Here is how Yang has fared this season:
- Played: 23
- Minutes: 1338
- Starting XI: 17
- Goals: 5
- Assists: 1
Yang’s turnaround has been remarkable to watch as he was the whipping boy at Celtic for the last two seasons. Now undroppable under O’Neill, the winger looks like he could be vital in the title defence this season.
