Mark Wilson is stunned by what Kyogo Furuhashi could have supposedly told Celtic about leaving

Celtic fans were in for a surprise after they beat Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Everyone was on cloud nine because knockout football in the Champions League was confirmed, but then the news about Kyogo Furuhashi broke.

Kyogo started Celtic’s win over Young Boys and he had several goals ruled out for offside, before he was subbed off in the 75th minute for Adam Idah.

Little did the Parkhead faithful know that would be Kyogo’s last outing in a Celtic shirt because he is now closing in on a transfer to French side, Rennes.

Yes, the great news is that Jota is returning to Celtic, but Kyogo heading for the exit door has been a dagger in the heart for many and there is one thing Mark Wilson can’t seem to fathom.

No matter what happens, Kyogo is a Celtic legend, but Mark Wilson, like many, was surprised to hear that the 30-year-old is leaving.

Wilson told Clyde1 Superscoreboard that for a deal to happen right now, the Japan star ‘must have actively’ asked the club to let him leave.

He explained how Kyogo isn’t leaving to join a top team – but one hovering above the relegation zone – and he hasn’t been lured by the money of Saudi Arabia, either, so everything is strange.

“You know what we have to remember as well, Kyogo must have wanted to go through with this,” said Wilson.

“That’s what I can’t get my head around. That he would go to Rennes, who are sitting bottom half of the table anyway. It’s not as if he is going to a club that you go, ‘wow, that’s too good to turn down because I am fighting at the top end of a top league or I am getting weighed in beyond belief in my wages, so I am going to Saudi Arabia’.

“Kyogo must have actively said, ‘yeah, I want to leave’ and that surprises me. I know people are body language experts. They said last week, ‘oh, he didn’t really celebrate against Ross County’. There were times he didn’t celebrate goals like it was the last-minute winner all the time. I just can’t get my head around why he would want to go at this stage of the season.”

Why does Kyogo want to leave Celtic?

If this deal happened in the summer, then it would have been more understandable, but Brendan Rodgers has stated that Kyogo asked to leave a number of months ago.

Some aren’t having Kyogo’s reason for wanting to go, and whilst nobody has heard from the player yet, you presume you will hear from him very soon, it has been reported that it’s down to wanting to play at the World Cup with Japan.

Kyogo missed Japan’s trip to the Qatar World Cup last time out and Sky Sports reported that, playing for a ‘top five league’ in Europe, to boost his chances of playing for his country, is a reason for this sudden exit.
