Jota is reportedly close to sealing a deal to return to Celtic from Rennes.
The Portuguese winger’s career has stalled ever since he left Celtic to join Al-Ittihad for £25m two summers ago.
Jota struggled to get game time at the Saudi club as his big move from Celtic quickly turned sour. Whilst many people questioned his decision to move to Al-Ittihad, their assistant manager Ian Cathro, laid out the bare truth of why Jota chose to leave the Bhoys for a footballing nation just getting on its feet. Money.
The former Celtic winger left the Saudi club to join Rennes last summer as he looked to kickstart his flailing career but, once again, that move nosedived after the French club parted ways with the manager who signed Jota just weeks later.
And now, with Jota on the verge of a dramatic Celtic return, details of the Portuguese star’s contract have emerged.

Jota set to sign a multi-year deal with Celtic
The Daily Record reports that Jota is set to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at Celtic Park with a fee of around £9m being paid for his services. The deal is expected to be announced within the next 24 hours.
The report also states that the Rennes attacker was in Glasgow last night finalising the move as Celtic hero, Kyogo Furuhashi heads in the opposite direction to seal his move to the French Ligue 1 side.
Kyogo’s Celtic exit is close to being completed as the Japanese striker looks to start a new chapter in his career after a successful three-and-a-half-year spell at the Scottish champions.
How Jota’s career ground to a halt after 2023 Celtic exit
Jota was an ever-present in Celtic’s first team under former manager, Ange Postecoglou. But since he left the club, the Portuguese star has barely made even half of the appearances he made at the Hoops at his last two clubs.
| Jota’s appearances | Played | Goals | Assists |
| Celtic | 83 | 28 | 26 |
| Al-Ittihad | 25 | 5 | 1 |
| Rennes | 10 | 1 | 1 |
There is no doubt that when Jota’s deal to return to the Bhoy happens, he along with Nicolas Kuhn will be the automatic picks and that thought will seriously excite the Celtic supporters in the second-half of the season.
