Pundit Michael Stewart has compared Celtic transfer target Benjamin Siegrist favourably to struggling Neil Lennon signing Vasilis Barkas.
Siegrist was in sparkling form against the Hoops at the weekend, making a number of saves to keep the score deadlocked at 0-0.
Journalist Stephen McGowan reported back in December that the Swiss goalkeeper was one of Celtic’s January signing targets.
His agent Dr Thomas Kraft confirmed the interest to The Scottish Daily Mail, saying: “There is interest in him from clubs in the Bundesliga and the Dutch Eredivisie.
“Celtic have also scouted him several times, that is true. But today, at this moment, we have no official offer from Celtic.
“Will Benjamin leave Dundee United in January? It depends on the financial situation at United. You would have to ask the club, it’s difficult for me to say.
“If there was a chance to move to Celtic then that would be a very good step for Benjamin. The other option is to sell him in the summer, but if there is an opportunity in January that could be probable.”

Now, BBC Sportscene man Stewart has talked up his performance against Celtic, comparing his game to Greek international Barkas.
Stewart told the programme at the weekend: “He’s a good ‘keeper. Obviously today, Celtic had a number of shots.
“Benjamin Siegrist’s the sort of ‘keeper that, I know he’s made a few mistakes this season, but in general this is the sort of thing that he comes up with – he makes saves.
“We’re talking about Barkas having been signed for £5m for Celtic, somebody that over the course of the season a lot of people have recognised he doesn’t make many saves. Siegrist, not just in this game here but in general, he makes saves. He’s a big player for Dundee United.”
Siegrist has actually made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership this season, becoming a prominent figure in United’s first season back in the top-flight.
He’s made 121 stops in total, 31 more than the next highest goalkeeper [WhoScored]. He’s conceded 36 goals in 30 appearances, helping the Tayside club keep 10 clean sheets [Transfermarkt].
Going by the words of his agent, he’s now destined for bigger things and could well end up in a bigger league abroad.
However, with Celtic potentially looking for goalkeeping options this summer, he’s a name that could well be in the frame.
