Midfielder offered to Celtic by his agent is now a January ‘target’ for Rangers

Celtic have been linked with a good few midfielders ahead of January.

Between David Watson, Issa Doumbia and Mateusz Bogusz, it appears to be a target position for the club’s winter window.

But one midfielder, who was reportedly offered to Celtic earlier this season, is now reportedly being pursued by Rangers.

It isn’t the first time that Celtic and their rivals have been looking at the same player – you could list countless examples.

But amid an intense contract dispute and refusal to play, this one has a unique element.

Pierre Ekwah is a Rangers target after being offered to Celtic

Pierre Ekwah may be looking for a new club, but before he sorts that out, he could do with a new agent.

That’s because he is ‘categorically refusing’ to play for Saint-Etienne in Ligue 2, after his €6 million purchase clause from Sunderland was triggered in the summer.

That’s after they were relegated, whilst his parent club were promoted from the Championship to the Premier League. Talk about a change in situation.

Amid the dispute, he is now officially on ‘sick leave’ with the club, and his agent has been offering him to clubs for free.

That’s why it was reported in September that Celtic had been offered Ekwah by his agent, with ASSE being left in the dark over the situation.

And as clubs gear up for the January window, Footmercato now report that the Ibrox side are one of three sides targeting him ahead of a move.

Given that Ekwah hasn’t played a game of football since May – despite being fully fit during that time – he certainly wouldn’t be expected to slot in instantly.

But after Celtic were offered the chance to sign him, it looks like he won’t be slotting in for the Celts at all.

As for Danny Rohl, he can enjoy chasing Celtic’s rejects.

Wilfried Nancy’s words ahead of the January transfer window

Some might be worried over whether Nancy can make it to the January transfer window, given how his Celtic spell has started.

He was asked about it ahead of the Dundee United clash, and said: “Me, the way I am as a coach, every window is important, because the idea is to bring competition,” he said.

“We don’t have to bring players just for the sake of bringing players, so the window for me is a tool for me to add more players to bring more competition, because I believe we need more competition.

“If we have good competition between players, then the level is going to be up. So, the idea is to see what type of player we need, and after that, if we find this player who we are interested in to bring the competition up, then we will do it.

“If you ask me the same question in four months it is going to be the same answer. So, the window is really important, but January could be tricky also because I know what I am talking about, I’ve come in in the middle of the season too and it’s not easy.

“We have to find the balance. Summertime is not the same because we have time to prepare the team. So, each window is important, and we will see what we need to do.”
