Nilson Angulo is a name on the lips of most Celtic fans today.
67 Hail Hail told this morning how Celtic and Liverpool both want Angulo and it seems that Brendan Rodgers has laid a marker and made the first move for the Ecuadorian winger.
Angulo commented on Liverpool’s interest and admitted that he ‘doesn’t pay attention’ to the rumours surrounding his future at Anderlecht amid the Celtic rumours.
Not many Celtic supporters would have heard of the 21-year-old attacker so here is what the Ecuadorian media have said about Angulo as he played a key role in his country reaching the 2026 World Cup finals next summer.

Celtic target Nilson Angulo is Ecuador’s player of the ‘future’ after Peru performance
Ecuador qualified for next year’s World Cup after securing a 0-0 draw against Peru last night and their national media were over the moon with the winger.
ESPN: “Nilson Angulo was a huge offensive contributor. His speed and ball control made the Peruvian team look bad, as they were very committed to every ball and had great chances to score. He even scored, but unfortunately, the opportunity was disallowed.”
El Futbolero Ecuador: “Angulo not only performed his defensive duties perfectly, containing Peru’s advances on his flank, but was also a constant outlet and playmaker on the flank.
“His attacking projections disrupted the opposing defense and contributed to several of Ecuador’s five scoring opportunities in the first half.
“Nilson Angulo’s performance against Peru reaffirmed his status as a player for the present and future of the Ecuadorian national team, demonstrating that he is up to the demands of the South American Qualifiers.”
Primicias: “He was the center of Ecuador’s best offensive moments. He managed to create links with Yeboah and Kevin Rodriguez, and burned poor Advíncula, who left the pitch exhausted. He’ll be dreaming of that tonight. When he came on for the substitution, Ecuador went dark.”
Celtic-linked Nilson Angulo ‘burst onto the scene’ for Ecuador vs Brazil
Angulo has six caps for Ecuador. His first four were in friendlies against Mexico, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Bolivia.
The Anderlecht winger made his first competitive start for Ecuador against Brazil five days ago and it was there that he really impressed with a ‘dream debut’.
Centro: “Nilson Angulo burst onto the international scene with a dream debut: starting against Brazil in the South American Qualifiers .
“His performance in the draw against the five-time world champions did not go unnoticed. With precise dribbling and innate ability in one-on-one situations, the Anderlecht striker showed he is ready to make the big leap.”
El Futbolero Ecuador: “Nilson Angulo played a key role in Ecuador’s attack, forming part of a system that sought to create danger on the wings and take advantage of the speed of its wingers.
“During his time on the pitch, he attempted to break through on his own flank and link up with his teammates, finding space in the Brazilian defence.”
It’s absolutely clear that the Ecuadorian media rate this kid highly and judging by the comments, he looks like he could be a real star for the future.
