The return of Kieran Tierney to Celtic has been a rumour that has been circulating in the media for the duration of this summer.
The Arsenal fullback has found it increasingly difficult to break into Mikel Arteta’s side and has had to play second fiddle to Oleksandr Zinchenko.
This has led to speculation that he could be tempted to return to Celtic on loan. Especially after the reappointment of Brendan Rodgers whom Tierney enjoyed enormous success.
But former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, believes that the move will be difficult to negotiate due to a demand that Arsenal are likely to place on any proposed deal.
Lennon said [PLZ Soccer], “Even if he were to come [to Celtic] on loan you’re talking Arsenal will demand a £10 million loan fee. That’s just not going to happen. He needs to go.
“He’s such a good player and for me, I’m amazed he’s not in the team, especially in the run in last year when they needed a better defender than Zinchenko.
“He should have been playing but then that’s Mikel’s [Arteta] decision. He’s a quality player. When he’s fit and firing he’s one of the best in Britain.
“So at this stage in his career, I think he needs to go and play somewhere else.”
Is Kieran Tierney a realistic transfer for Celtic?
I have been consistent on 67 Hail Hail in saying that this is one that Celtic should probably forget about. Greg Taylor has made that left-back position his own. He deserves to hold onto it.
If, by some miracle, Celtic were to pull off this deal, Tierney would go straight into the starting eleven. What kind of message would that send to players who have been instrumental in our successes over the last two years?

On the flip side of that though, Brendan Rodgers has been at pains to point out that previous successes, which he respects, ‘don’t matter’ to him.
It’s all about the here and now for the Celtic manager. And if he feels there is a player that could improve his squad, which Tierney would most certainly do, he will make the necessary changes to do that.
I personally don’t think this move will happen. The financial implications are just too rich for Celtic. I hope Tierney gets the move he deserves. As Lennon says, he’s too good not to be playing.
