Neil Lennon refused to be drawn on Liam Shaw signing a pre-contract at Celtic despite previously saying the deal was done.

As reported by The Daily Record, the Celtic boss said on Tuesday: “I’ve not yet spoken to Dominic, but I speak to Peter every day. I speak to Dermot Desmond, I speak to Nick Hammond.

“We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So that’s done and we are looking ahead. We’ve got a bit of work to do.”

That was hailed as positive news about supporters, who are eager to learn more about their new signing.

However, Lennon was in no mood to discuss the Sheffield Wednesday prospect today.

He wouldn’t expand on the question put to him by a journalist in his press conference at all [YouTube].

The Celtic boss was asked: “Is there anything you can tell us about Liam Shaw? There were reports about him signing a pre-contract coming up from Sheffield Wednesday.”

Lennon replied: “No. I can’t comment on that at the minute.”

The manager was then asked if it was a position he was looking to strengthen, to which he gave a vague answer about strengthening lots of positions.

It’s an odd one considering the reports about Shaw joining Celtic were generated by Lennon himself.

Sorry to be a cynic, but I still have PTSD from the Ben Davies deal and can’t face another pre-contract falling through!

We’ll have to take the manager on his initial word that Shaw has indeed signed up.

Though, with the deal not being announced officially by either club, perhaps there are last-minute details waiting to be sorted out?

It’d be great to hear what Lennon has to say about the player and why he was recruited. Hopefully, those comments aren’t far away.

For now, we wait!

In other news, Neil Lennon has been asked about his controversial ‘mitigating circumstances’ comments.
