Neil Lennon sends transfer warning to Celtic amid possible summer sale of two big players

Celtic are bracing themselves for another important transfer window.

The upcoming summer window is perhaps more important than others because the powers that be at Celtic have to get the timing right.

Despite Celtic’s progression in the Champions League this season, the champions-elect have to qualify for Europe’s elite competition next term.

It means that transfer business needs to be done early, and that doesn’t just include incomings, but outgoings as well.

Last summer, Celtic sold Matt O’Riley for a club-record transfer fee to Brighton and Hove Albion, and now Neil Lennon has a message about what’s coming up.

Celtic told to ‘refresh’ the squad amid possible sales of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn

Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn have had incredible campaigns, and they are key reasons why Celtic are continuing to dominate.

But Lennon warned the club about needing to ‘refresh’, and how it’s important to do that, even when they are on top and performing like they are.

Lennon highlighted how the possible transfer sales of Maeda and Kuhn this summer shouldn’t stop the ‘conveyor belt’ of quality still entering the building, as he told Premier Sports.

“Every season, I think you have to keep freshening it,” said Lennon. “By bringing one or two bodies in.

“They had a good summer. Spent well and backed the manager very, very powerfully compared to the rest of the teams in Scotland. I think that’s important.

“Once you reach the top of the mountain so many times, you start to look at other mountains to climb, and that’s what happens with the likes of O’Riley going in the summer. There will maybe be suitors for Kuhn and Maeda.

“That’s the important thing, to make sure the conveyor belt of quality keeps going on. It’s always important to keep it fresh. But keep your main quarterbacks happy in the squad, driving the narrative forward.

“They are so far ahead in the league that the intensity did drop a little.”

Maeda and Kuhn’s stats for Celtic this season

Yes, Kuhn’s form has fallen off in 2025, but it still shouldn’t discount the ridiculous numbers he has hit and the important role he has played this term.

It’s probably a reason why Kuhn won’t win the Player of the Season award, but Maeda is at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to that individual prize.

Maeda can’t stop scoring, as he helped himself to goal number 33 for the season when he struck during Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final triumph over St Johnstone on Sunday.
