A fresh claim suggests Kelechi Iheanacho is edging closer to a permanent Celtic return after new contract talks took place.

Iheanacho enjoyed a brilliant season at Celtic where his goals helped clinch a league and Scottish Cup double.

The Nigerian was said to have been ‘considering’ a move to Saudi this week, but that has now been quashed and it looks like Iheanacho is edging closer to a deal return to Celtic after new contract talks took place.

What the latest Kelechi Iheanacho Celtic claim could mean

Journalist George Tsarouchas has claimed that Iheanacho has not only turned down a move to Qatar, the 29-year-old has also rejected a deal from Turkey.

Tsarouchas also says that he is set to agree a two-year deal to stay at Celtic which could end the weeks of rumours about his long-term future.

This fresh claim is likely to excite Celtic supporters, especially after Martin O’Neill publicly declared he wants Iheanacho to return to Parkhead.

Martin O’Neill has already made Celtic’s Iheanacho stance clear

The Celtic manager is an admirer of Iheanacho after he scored high-pressure goals for Celtic last season to rescue a season that looked dead and buried in March.

O’Neill said of bringing Iheanacho to Celtic permanently, “I’d like to do something with him. That’s the point.

“Of course, if we can do something relatively quickly, at least he then gets started in pre-season, which is really important for him.

“It’s something he didn’t have last year. After about three minutes, he was injured against Sturm Graz and he then hurt himself in the League Cup Final as well.

“So that would be nice. I’m definitely pursuing that at this minute.”

If the reported talks result in an agreement, Celtic could soon secure one of Martin O’Neill’s biggest priorities of the summer.
