Celtic’s hunt for a left-back has become one of the headlines of the transfer window amid Brendan Rodgers’ desire to provide competition for Greg Taylor.
The Scotland international is the only senior option available to the Irishman on the left-hand side of defence. Still, the club are now close to signing Barcelona’s Alex Valle on loan.
After spending last campaign on loan at Levante, the La Masia graduate will come into the fold for a loan fee of £1.3 million. Despite his young age, he has a considerable pedigree, having featured for Spain at youth level.
With Valle set to be rubberstamped imminently, the capture will spell the end to Celtic being the subject of links with several left-back targets.

Liverpool’s Owen Beck is someone Celtic have held long-standing admiration for since the January transfer window. However, the curtain is set to come down on interest in the Welshman as he edges closer to a move elsewhere.
Owen Beck set to join Blackburn Rovers on loan
According to Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph on X, Beck has agreed to join Blackburn Rovers on loan following intense speculation over his future this summer.
“UPDATE: Blackburn Rovers have agreed a loan deal for Liverpool left-back Owen Beck. The 22yo was attracting a lot of interest this summer, with QPR & Celtic also making enquiries. Beck spent last season on loan at Dundee, in two separate spells.”
Queens Park Rangers were also prominent in the hunt for his signature and Celtic have been touted as suitors again this summer after failing to acquire the defender in January.
Ultimately, he is set to move elsewhere as the Bhoys close in on Valle, who appears to have all the requisite qualities to succeed in Glasgow.
Excitement will await his arrival, and it will be fascinating to see how Rodgers utilises the Spaniard and Taylor over the coming season.
Celtic fans will hope a few more bolts from the blue appear in the next few days as their side scour the market for quality additions.
