It could have been a move of nostalgia had Celtic decided to sign Sydney van Hooijdonk from Bologna during the January transfer window.

Given that he is the son of Celtic hero, Pierre, then it certainly would have brought back some great memories for the supporters.

Peter Grant thinks that Pierre himself would have liked his son to make the switch to Celtic, but that’s not going to happen now, as he told Go Radio.

Sydney van Hooijdonk is expected to leave Bologna, amid his limited game time at the Serie A club, with rumours throughout the month that Celtic were looking.

But Peter Grant feels that those in the Parkhead boardroom probably decided against a deal because he hasn’t played much.

The rising Dutch star is yet to score a goal this season, but to put that into context, he has only played 207 minutes of league football.

Sydney van Hooijdonk did showcase his worth whilst at Heerenveen last season by finding the back of the net on 16 occasions, but it wasn’t enough for Celtic to pursue a deal.

Why Celtic didn’t sign Sydney van Hooijdonk

“The interesting thing is that they are talking about van Hooijdonk going to Norwich,” said Grant. “That’s the interesting thing.

“I am sure big Pierre would love him to come to Celtic. He was adored by the Celtic fans. Celtic are probably looking at it and thinking ‘he hasn’t played enough games’.”

Adam Idah at Celtic

This is going to be an interesting one, with the Norwich City man expected to arrive on a loan deal before Thursday night’s cut-off point.

Adam Idah himself hasn’t exactly had the greatest of times at Carrow Road, but he has played more minutes than van Hooijdonk, so he should hit the ground running a lot quicker.

Given that Celtic have decided to wait until January to bring in another striker, then it does put extra pressure on Idah because he has no time to settle down now and he has to hit the ground running.
