The rivalry between Celtic and Rangers is like no other in world football.
For decades and decades, Scotland might have produced only two winners of their Premiership title, but that has only increased the fierce battle and never-ending hate between Celtic and Rangers.
The Glasgow derby is contested like no other, and very few have been on both sides of the divide because it is seen as an unforgivable act.
Peter Grant understands that more than anybody else because he was at Celtic when Mo Johnston made his infamous move to Ibrox in 1989 – in one of the most high-profile transfers in Scottish football history.

How Celtic fans would react if they signed ex-Rangers player Vaclav Cerny
Fast forward to the modern day, and now Grant is talking about Vaclav Cerny possibly wearing the Celtic colours after his loan spell at Ibrox last season.
The 27-year-old has returned to Wolfsburg, and Grant admitted on Go Radio, ‘I really liked him’, as he surprisingly stated that the Celtic supporters would ‘no doubt’ have ‘bought into him’ if he signed.
Of course, it needs to be made clear that Cerny isn’t expected to sign for Celtic, as rumours were flying about, but Grant’s comments were a surprise.
Paul Cooney: “A few people asking about Vaclav Cerny, who the Rangers fans like, there were suggestions that Celtic should go for him. But I don’t think that was going to happen, was it?! After the water bottle.”
Grant responded: “I really liked him. The one thing he showed was bottle; he showed that he could play in front of the Rangers fans. If it wasn’t going well, he would take the ball.
“I have no doubt that Celtic supporters would have bought into him if he had come to Celtic Park. Things happen. You know what you do with supporters, you wind them up, and whatever.
“When you are playing for the opposition, you will try anything, there is absolutely no doubt about that.”
Notable players who have represented Celtic and Rangers
The two that probably stick in the minds of Celtic and Rangers supporters are Miller and Johnston.
The latter will never be forgiven, and at the time he made the move, it was met with anger, not just from the Celtic fans, but those in Rangers colours also.
These are just some of the players who have played for Celtic and Rangers in their careers:
- Craig Beattie
- Kenny Miller
- Steven Pressley
- Mo Johnston
- Mark Brown
