Billy Dodds makes honest admission about Vaclav Cerny’s water bottle incident for Rangers at Celtic

Rangers had very little to cheer about last season, as Celtic triumphed in Scotland again.

As Celtic won the title by 17 points, including winning the League Cup at the Ibrox club’s expense at Hampden, there was some drama during the second half of the campaign, even though it was obvious who was going to be the champions.

To the frustration of the Celtic Park faithful, they had to watch Barry Ferguson’s Rangers secure a 3-2 win at Parkhead in March, but the scoreline wasn’t the main talking point after the match.

On-loan Rangers player Vaclav Cerny decided to spray water at the Celtic bench and the fans behind it when running off to celebrate the winning goal.

Billy Dodds was on the Rangers coaching staff on the day, and he admitted that the situation even shocked him.

Billy Dodds on Vaclav Cerny water bottle incident

Speaking on Go Radio, the Cerny incident was brought up, and Dodds admitted that he was ‘so surprised’ by it all because of the player’s character.

The former striker explained that he spoke to Cerny on the matter straight after the game, and he initially denied it, but then on Monday morning, he admitted his guilt.

“I don’t think the fan next to the dugout is asking Celtic to sign him,” joked Dodds.

“I was so surprised he did that because he’s such a nice guy. It’s funny though, when I said to him, ‘what happened? Like, honestly, what happened?’ In the dressing room. ‘Vash, did you do anything?’ ‘No, I never did a thing.’

‘Then, I got him on the Monday, I was like, ‘did you see?’ It was funny. At the time, he was just playing like an innocent person in the park. He wasn’t giving us anything.

“Then, when it was there on video on Monday, he was like, ‘Yeah, okay.’

Celtic’s brilliant response to the Cerny water bottle incident

One thing Celtic have been very good at is doing their talking on the pitch, and that’s exactly what they were able to do after the Cerny incident.

In truth, it has been the story for the last 25 years, Celtic dominating Glasgow, and winning more Trebles in the last decade than Rangers have league titles.

That’s why they had a brilliant response to Cerny’s actions, as posted by the club’s official account when celebrating the title.
