Peter Grant tells Celtic to outbid rivals and sign striker who is ‘more natural’ than Daizen Maeda

Celtic need more goals in the team, and that has been pretty clear since the winter when Kyogo Furuhashi departed and joined Rennes.

Yes, Daizen Maeda went goal crazy and proceeded to win the Scottish PFA Player of the Year after bagging 33 goals for the whole season.

But you can’t just rely on Maeda, added to the fact that there is increasing pressure on the under-performing Adam Idah, and Nicolas Kuhn left for Como this summer.

So, when Maeda isn’t performing, and he has started the new campaign pretty quietly, then those calls for a new striker are just going to grow louder and louder from the Celtic fans.

Bojan Miovski is ‘a more natural finisher’ than Celtic’s Daizen Maeda

One man who is seemingly available in the 2025 summer transfer window is Girona’s out-of-favour striker Bojan Miovski.

Peter Grant explained that if he were in Celtic’s shoes, then he would be signing the former Aberdeen player.

Speaking on Go Radio, Grant explained that he would like Celtic to outbid Rangers for the player, and he believes he is a ‘more natural finisher’ than Maeda.

Paul Cooney asks: ‘Should Celtic jump in and outbid Rangers for Miovski?”

Grant responded: “I like Miovski. I would have signed him at the time. Yeah, (I would sign him now). He is more of a natural striker than Maeda. He is more of a natural finisher.

“If you are talking to me about strikers that can finish. I think Miovski is more of a natural finisher. That’s what your strikers are at Celtic and Rangers.”

Miovski and Maeda’s goalscoring numbers

It needs to be noted that Miovski has always played as an out-and-out number nine, so he is going to be more of a goal threat than the Japan star.

Whilst Maeda moved down the middle when Kyogo left in January, he has also, for large parts, deployed a role on the left wing for Celtic.

But this is how their numbers have fared during their time in Scotland, including Maeda’s numbers as an out-and-out striker.
