A positive picture seems to be developing for Celtic in their pursuit of Aris Thessaloniki winger Luis Palma.

The Honduras international is a name that not many of us were familiar with a matter of days ago. However, since being thrust in to the limelight 24 hours ago, a potential move to Celtic has seemed to gather momentum.

Palma was first mentioned in Scottish circles on Wednesday evening, with Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos soon adding that our £3.5m offer was being “considered seriously” by Aris.

Reliable reporter Chorianopoulos added a further update late on Thursday and it further suggested that a move is imminent for Palma.

“Luis Palma was out of Aris Thessaloniki training ahead of his transfer,” he tweeted. (Giannis Chorianopoulos on Twitter)

“Greek club contacted his agent. Celtic seem to be the favourites to sign Palma. Offers from non European clubs also. Palma wants to continue playing in Europe.”

So a fair lot of information to process there in not too many words. The big takeaway is that Palma isn’t currently training with Aris, with a decision made either by the club or the player with a move in mind.

That kind of decision won’t have been taken lightly. Aris are just at the start of a new league campaign, and have a match this weekend after losing their opener.

The decision not to have Palma training, seemingly made by the club going off Chorianopoulos’ tweet, is a telling one. It suggests that a move is some way down the line.

The good news from our point of view is that we’re viewed as the favourites. The non-European interest mentioned could well be from Saudi Arabia — something we spoke about yesterday on the site. Regardless, it seems like Palma has his heart set on a European club.

Everything we’re reading seems to suggest that this is a goer. With Palma surely unlikely to feature for Aris this weekend, we could hear news of a bid being accepted and him on his way to Scotland very soon.
