Rapid Vienna sporting director reveals the real reason he signed Marco Tilio despite lack of minutes for Celtic

Marco Tilio’s Celtic story is one of the strangest over the last couple of years.

In fact, there are a few players Celtic have signed since 2020 that have had a weird time at the club and hardly played any minutes in the green and white Hoops.

Gustaf Lagerbielke and Maik Nawrocki are two examples of a failed Celtic transfer strategy that has cost the club millions in lost transfer fees.

However, it appears Celtic have recouped the fee paid for young Australian Marco Tilio after he completed his move to Rapid Vienna this week.

And here, the Austrian club’s sporting director shares why he pursued the out-of-favour former Celtic winger.

Rapid Vienna sporting director says ex-Celtic man Marco Tilio will ‘enrich’ his team

Tilio will be hoping to revive his career at Rapid and many Celtic supporters will wish the youngster well.

And sporting director Markus Katzer told Rapid Vienna’s official website, “Marco Tilio is a player we’ve had on our radar for a long time, and I’m particularly pleased that we’ve now reached an agreement on a permanent signing.

“With his speed and ability, which he can particularly exploit on the wing positions, he will enrich our attacking game.

“Even though he didn’t gain much competitive playing time at Celtic, it’s certainly an advantage that he’s already gained experience at a large and storied European club.

“Like our head coach Peter Stöger, I’m looking forward to working with him with confidence and hope that Marco Tilio will bring us much joy in the future.”

Marco Tilio’s all-time Celtic appearances

Tilio arrived at Celtic injured and that clearly put the young Australian at an immediate disadvantage. However, he did wear the green and white Hoops on two occasions in his time in Glasgow.

Hopefully, Tilio can put his time at Celtic behind him and show at Rapid the kind of player he promised to become at Parkhead in Austria.
