Ange Postecoglou is hoping to convince Aaron Mooy to play for Celtic despite his high wages in China.
Mooy, a compatriot of Postecoglou and a player who has worked under him before, currently stars for Shanghai SIPG in the Chinese Super League.
He made the move last year and is said by The Athletic to be earning £60,000-a-week.
That’s obviously a complication for Celtic. However, The Daily Record reports that the midfielder is high on Postecoglou’s transfer wishlist this summer. The new Bhoys boss is hoping to convince the player to take a pay cut and move to Glasgow.
Mooy could be a fantastic signing. He’s the kind of experienced professional we need to help Celtic get back to successful times. Complementing young players and emerging prospects, the 30-year-old could be one of Postecoglou’s big trusted figures in the dressing room.
Aaron Mooy ticks the boxes for Celtic
He doesn’t have much resale value, but not every signing needs to, just most of them. It’s important we flesh out potential with the finished product. Mooy has wonderful experience and the ability to succeed in the Scottish Premiership.
Don’t forget, he’s played in the division before with St Mirren before his English Premier League exploits with Huddersfield Town and Brighton.
MORE CELTIC STORIES
He knows the scene, the style of football and, perhaps most importantly, the new Celtic manager.

From a playing perspective we know he enjoys his time on the ball and can be a creative, attacking presence in the middle of the park.
I’m all for this move if we can work out the financial details. If Mooy is hungry to impress under his former national team boss, Celtic can really benefit here.
