The potential Celtic move for Albian Ajeti has stalled in recent days despite indications that he was ready to undergo a medical and join on a season-long loan from West Ham United.
Broadcaster STV reported to that effect yesterday, stating that the Scottish champions would also have an option to buy the Switzerland forward.
However, overnight there were further reports that the loan switch had stalled.
The Scottish Sun said that he had asked for more time to consider his future, having not been completely sold on a move to Celtic.
And what was the reason for that?
Website Read Celtic has provided a bit of clarity today, reporting via a source with knowledge of the situation that Ajeti has actually had his head turned by another, unnamed club.
Whoever that outfit is, they are said to have told the former Basel striker that they are considering putting a transfer move together and that they wanted him to delay the finalisation of his potential Celtic deal.
Ajeti does look like an exciting potential arrival with his record of 43 goals and 21 assists in 96 appearances for Basel (Transfermarkt), as well as a former playing relationship with Mohamed Elyounoussi, indicating he could make quite the impact at Celtic Park.
It seems we’ll now be left waiting on the 23-year-old to decide where his future lies.
The Scottish champions apparently have a number of irons in the transfer fire, however, with reports that offers have been tabled for Ivan Toney and that he is keen on a spell at Celtic.
Whoever ends up arriving in Glasgow, Neil Lennon is very much on the hunt for more quality in attack.
