Report: Albian Ajeti seeking Celtic exit in final 48 hours of summer transfer window
Celtic striker Albian Ajeti is reportedly looking to leave the club as we head into the final 48 hours of the summer transfer window.
Since joining the Hoops from West Ham in the summer of 2020, it has been a disappointing few years for the Swiss frontman.
Despite a positive start to life at Parkhead, it simply hasn’t worked out for Ajeti, who has scored just nine goals in 48 total appearances for the club.
During Ange Postecoglou’s first 12 months in the Celtic Park dugout, the 25-year-old featured in the side during the early stages of the season and got on the scoresheet three times.
However, upon the arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis, the Swiss striker has rarely been seen or involved in a squad for the 57-year-old.
After featuring just once for the Hoops during pre-season, it seemed almost certain to the Celtic support that Ajeti would be heading for the exit door this summer.
Postecoglou has done a good job of getting rid of the deadwood from his squad this summer, overseeing the departures of Vasilis Barkas and Ismaila Soro.
However, with just under 48 hours left in this summer’s transfer window, Ajeti still remains a Celtic player, despite not being part of the plans at Parkhead.
However, according to the latest update on Ajeti’s future by Sky Sports Anthony Joseph, the £5 million man is looking to leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
Several clubs are believed to have expressed an interest in the striker so far this summer. But, as the report from Joseph states, Ajeti hasn’t been convinced by the options on the table.
However, with just a matter of days left in the window, the Swiss internationalist is aware his time to find a move is running out.
At this stage, it feels almost certain that by the end of the transfer window tomorrow evening that Albian Ajeti will not be a Celtic player.
Although it remains to be seen which clubs are interested in bringing the former West Ham and Basel man to their club, there is bound to be some late interest from sides attempting to recruit an available striker late in the window.
Hopefully, for the sake of both parties, Ajeti is able to secure a move elsewhere and get back to playing regular football once again.
