Report: Celtic have interest in bargain winger; stood out in Ligue 1 last season
Celtic are showing transfer interest in Nimes winger Zinedine Ferhat this January, French outlet FootMercato has reported.
Ferhat’s contract is up at the end of the season. The 13-cap Algerian winger is said to also be attracting interest from Montpellier and St Etienne.
That’s no real surprise considering Ferhat’s impressive form in Ligue 1 last season. He scored six goals and assisted ten more in 33 appearances, despite Nimes’ eventual relegation.
Now available on a pre-contract basis, he could be a stunning bargain for anyone who manages to sign him up. The attacker is destined to leave Ligue 2 this winter according to FootMercato.
It’s also easy to see why Celtic are keen. The Bhoys are in need of a reliable right-wing option to compete with Liel Abada and James Forrest on that flank.
Daizen Maeda has been signed but he is best utilised on the left or through the middle, as is Kyogo Furuhashi.
Ferhat predominately plays on the right and at 28 has plenty of experience behind him in France and Algeria.
Having another creative force and another attacking option to rotate into Ange Postecoglou’s plans would be ideal, if the right player is available.
It’s another name to watch over the next few weeks after Celtic’s brilliant triple deal for our new Japanese Bhoys.
