Report: Celtic interested in Croatian right-back Josip Juranovic
Celtic are interested in Croatian international right-back Josip Juranovic, according to Sky Sports News.
Sky Sports News state that Celtic are keen to bring in the right-back from Legia Warsaw. Juranovic played twice for Croatia at Euro 2020, including the country’s 3-1 win over Scotland.
However, Fiorentina and Spartak Moscow, where Jordan Larsson plays his club football, are also interested in the right-back.
Celtic are also keen on Aurelio Buta. Belgian media claim that a deal for the Portuguese right-back will conclude today, with Celtic paying £3m. Meanwhile, Sky Sports state that Yan Couto remains on the Bhoys’ radar.
Juranovic, 25, played 32 times for Legia Warsaw last season, in a variety of positions [Transfermarkt]. Primarily a right-back, the Croat can play further up the right flank, in central defence or on the left.
Capped 10 times by Croatia, he made his debut for his country in 2017, but momentum gaining caps had halted. A move to Poland in 2020 yielded excellent results, with six of his caps coming in the 8 matches Croatia played in the run-up to Euro 2020.

Celtic need depth at right-back; an international like Josip Juranovic would be a great option
Regardless of whether the Aurelio Buta signing goes through today as reported, Celtic need depth at right-back.
Currently, Anthony Ralston is the only recognised first-team right-back. Lee O’Connor has appeared briefly in pre-season, but hasn’t staked a significant claim as of yet.
Celtic were only recently well-stocked in the position. However, the departures of Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed left the Bhoys with sparse cover on the right of defence.
Jonjoe Kenny arrived on loan at the start of 2021, but didn’t leave a significantly positive impression. Like Shane Duffy, he was part of a Premier League contingent that failed to impress at Celtic Park.
Versatile, with international caps and excellent club experience, Juranovic is most definitely a quality name.
Whether the interest turns into something concrete is up to Celtic themselves.
