Celtic are one of the clubs interested in Young Boys striker Jean-Pierre Nsame, website TEAMtalk has reported today.

Nsame is having a dynamite season with Swiss side BSC Young Boys.

He’s scored a healthy 25-goals in all competitions, including seven in European competition. Young Boys reached the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League, before going out to Ajax.

It’s not a fluke campaign either. The 27-year-old has a very impressive record in the Swiss Super League, netting 78 goals in 119 games in that competition over the years, also contributing 18 assists. [Transfermarkt]

TEAMtalk report that there’s also English Premier League interest in the player. Newcastle, West Ham and Southampton are all said to be keen on the Cameroon international.

His contract doesn’t expire until 2023, which could complicate matters for Celtic. It’s doubtful he’d be allowed to leave Switzerland cheaply given his goalscoring prowess.

Celtic need strikers and Jean-Pierre Nsame is an exciting option

With Patryk Klimala already making a move to Major League Soccer, Odsonne Edouard on the verge of a big-money exit, Leigh Griffiths’s contract situation uncertain and Albian Ajeti miles off the pace, Celtic clearly need new striking options this summer.

Nsame looks to be an exciting option given his goalscoring pedigree, as well as his form in the Europa League this season. He netted big goals against Roma, CSKA Sofia and old foes Cluj in the group stage.

Could Ajeti even play a part in bringing him to Glasgow?

As noted, Young Boys won’t be keen on giving him up cheaply, but perhaps an Ajeti return to his homeland in part-exchange could interest him. The Swiss international has a decent record in his homeland with Basel, despite his Celtic woes.

It remains to be seen if this reported interest firms up into something more concrete, but it does demonstrate there are quality strikers out there for the Bhoys this summer.
