Celtic-linked talent Ryan Gauld is weighing up a £41k-a-week offer from Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps, the Dundee Courier reports today.

The former Dundee United prospect, who impressed in Portugal last season, is a free agent this summer and is being tracked by a number of teams.

As we discussed yesterday, one of those sides is Celtic, who are said to be watching the situation of the creative midfielder.

The Courier reports that no Celtic offer has yet been submitted. It’s said that he will make a decision on his future this week.

Even on a free transfer, those are wages that the Bhoys will surely struggle to match. The salary structure at Celtic is pretty contained and I’m not sure Gauld would be able to command that kind of cash in Glasgow.

However, it’s no guarantee he’ll be heading across the Atlantic either. Moving to MLS could harm his international ambitions. If he couldn’t get in the Scotland squad from the Portuguese top-flight, I doubt a switch to Vancouver would convince Steve Clarke.

A high-profile switch back to Scotland could, however, despite lesser wages. He could really add to the Scotland hype levels by shining with the Bhoys in the Premiership.

However, given Celtic’s ‘watching’ interest and a number of bids apparently on the table from elsewhere, it seems unlikely he’ll return to Glasgow.

The reported offer from Vancouver could be life-changing and it’s not like the Canadian city is a bad place to spend your days either!

Hopefully we hear definitively on his future soon. It’s important we move on from targets not up for a stint at Celtic Park.

In other news, Ange Postecoglou’s first Celtic interview in Scotland goes down an absolute treat.
