Celtic are interested in signing Philadelphia Union attacking midfielder Brenden Aaronson, reports this evening.

Aaronson is already attracting attention from a number of European clubs, the outlet states, including Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, citing a source, journalist Tom Bogert reports that the Scottish champions can be added to the list of interested parties alongside an unnamed Belgian side.

Aaronson is still only 19 but is already making an impact across the Atlantic, featuring 35 times for Philly since making his senior breakthrough in 2019 (Transfermarkt).

His efforts have also led to international recognition, winning his first cap for the United States national team in February against Costa Rica.

An attacking midfielder, he’s said to be a player with a high work ethic who can really make an impact in the final third.

German newspaper Bild compared him to Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz this week.

However, it seems he has a fair bit of improving to do if he’s to reach the highest level.

Union head coach Jim Curtin said of the player earlier this month, as quoted by “He’s really taken the next step. Everybody sees his work rate and ability to run and cover ground and cover distance.

“If he’s going to make it as a No. 10 at the very highest level, and that’s the ultimate goal for him, he’s going to do it by being a volume player, a player that’s on the ball all the time.

“And he might make a mistake 3-4 times but he’s coming again at full speed. So that’s something he’s worked hard on: His final pass, his through balls, getting his shot off a little quicker in and around the box. He’s taken big strides.”

Aaronson is certainly a name to watch over the coming weeks.

Celtic are currently well-stocked in attacking midfield positions but having another player who can help challenge Ryan Christie when Tom Rogic is injured would be welcome, especially if he has the kind of potential discussed.

You can watch Philly Union in the ongoing ‘MLS Is Back’ tournament, where they have progressed to the knockout stages.

In other news, Celtic have made Glasgow green and white with over 30 locations promoting amazing charity efforts.
