Celtic have scheduled initial discussions regarding a potential transfer for in-form Danish striker Casper Tengstedt, Football Scotland has reported this week.

Journalist Mark Hendry reports that the Bhoys are set to chat with Tengstedt’s representatives after a lightning second half of the season in Norway with Rosenborg.

Tengstedt signed for the Trondheim outfit back in August and went on to score an impressive 15 goals in 14 appearances, also providing nine assists for his teammates.

It’s said that clubs in Italy and Germany are also tracking the 22-year-old but that Celtic are in the market for him as a feasible signing, especially if funds are raised by the sale of Giorgos Giakoumakis.

He’s thought to be valued at more than £3.5m.

The Bhoys have been linked with a number of strikers ahead of the January window, with one of the big talking points coming out of the UEFA Champions League group stage campaign being profligacy in front of goal.

Kyogo Furuhashi has since picked up scoring form and sits comfortably as the club’s top scorer on 15 goals from 24 appearances.

However, from all the reports, it certainly seems that Ange Postecoglou is in the market for a new forward to compete for places.

Tengstedt has the right profile for this kind of signing – a young, hungry player who has shown scoring consistency but isn’t quite on the elite radar of cash-rich clubs. Celtic are the kind of team that could take his career to the next level.

He has also shown versatility in his career, featuring a fair amount on both the right and left flanks. This is a trait we know Postecoglou likes in new signings.

With competition from other clubs for his signature and his contract not expiring until 2026, it remains to be seen whether Celtic have the appetite for a sustained transfer push, but it’s a name to keep track of over the coming weeks.
