Celtic are showing interest in Ferencvaros striker Ryan Mmaee ahead of the summer transfer window, The Daily Record has reported.

The paper say extensive data analysis has been undertaken while scouting the 24-year-old, who scored 19 goals and created 11 assists for the Hungarian champions this season. [Transfermarkt]

Mmaee will certainly be known to the coaching staff at Celtic.

He played against the Bhoys twice in the Europa League group stages, albeit on the end of two defeats. The forward assisted Myrto Azuni’s late effort in Celtic’s 3-2 win in Hungary, though that was more of a long-range solo special.

Mmaee has also been crucial to Morocco’s World Cup qualification hopes, scoring four and assisting four on their way to Qatar 2022.

It comes as Ange Postecoglou looks to bolster his striking options ahead of a busy Celtic campaign across four competitions, including the elite UEFA Champions League.

Ryan Mmaae could be the third striker Celtic need

Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis have been used extensively by the manager and that’s unlikely to change. However, beyond that duo, there’s a lack of viable striking depth.

Daizen Maeda can fill in at a pinch but is far more effective on the left flank.

Albian Ajeti looks destined for an exit, while youngsters such as Johnny Kenny and Joey Dawson have yet to make a sustained breakthrough.

Mmaee’s scoring record for club and country over the last 12 months suggests he can be that man to help out Kyogo and Giakoumakis over the course of a season.

If Celtic are destined to play 60+ games, as is the hope, then a third striker trusted by the boss will be useful.

If not him, then at least expect Postecoglou to add another attacker to the Celtic fold this summer.
