Celtic are one of the teams showing interest in Maccabi Haifa midfielder Mohammed Abu Fani, Israeli outlet Sport 5 has reported today.

The broadcaster believes that Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt and Standard Liege are also keen on the title-winning player, who is currently on international duty with Israel.

It’s stated that Celtic are set to scout their upcoming Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Albania to check in on his progress.

Maccabi Haifa are not expected to stand in his way of a move to a bigger team should a suitable offer arrive, Sport 5 say.

The 13-cap international is coming off the back of a very successful season in Israel where he made 44 appearances in all competitions for the champions, scoring six goals and assisting six more as an all-action midfielder.

The reporting at this stage indicates Celtic’s interest is very much in a preliminary stage, although we know that Celtic have utilised the Israeli market many times before.

Nir Bitton, Beram Kayal, Liel Abada, Hatem Abd Elhamed have all arrived at the club in recent years, while Ismaila Soro and Efe Ambrose were also playing their football in Israel before he made the switch to Glasgow.

We know manager Ange Postecoglou is on the hunt for a midfielder too. He admitted that before heading off on his holiday to Greece.

So a move for Abu Fani doesn’t seem like the most unlikely transfer rumour we’ve heard this summer and there have been many!

Celtic continue to be linked with a number of names in multiple positions as Postecoglou considers what’s next for the Bhoys.
