Celtic striker Johnny Kenny is reportedly attracting loan interest from English League Two side Carlisle United.

The 19-year-old joined the Bhoys from Irish side Sligo Rovers during the January transfer window after an impressive first year at his boyhood club.

The signing of Kenny appeared to be one for the future, with the youngster agreeing a five-year deal at Parkhead.

Upon his arrival at Celtic Park, the striker had to deal with some injury and covid issues, which led to a delayed start to his Hoops career.

The Ireland under-19 internationalist spent the final few months of the season playing for the Celtic B side, making his debut in March.

Featuring in the Lowland League and Glasgow Cup, the striker made seven appearances in total, picking up four goal contributions.

During the summer, Celtic supporters were given their first glimpse of the young Irishman as he featured for Ange Postecoglou’s first team in pre-season.

Kenny’s only appearance came in a 7-0 win over Austrian third division side SC Wiener Viktoria, grabbing two goals in the first half of the game.

Since spending time with the first team in pre-season, Kenny has since returned to the Celtic B side and has made several appearances in their opening few games of the 2022/23 campaign.

However, it doesn’t look likely that the former Sligo Rovers man will be spending the entire season with Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus’ B side.

According to a report from the Scottish Daily Express, Kenny is attracting loan interest from both Scotland and England, including English League Two side Carlisle United.

The report also states that the Hoops are currently looking into options for the striker to gain more first-team exposure, and Carlisle are amongst the teams who believe he can add firepower to the forward line.

At this stage of Kenny’s Celtic career, a move out on loan feels like the ideal plan to continue his development as a young player.

We have seen how much success a temporary move south of the border can have on a Hoops youngster, with current captain Callum McGregor enjoying a successful spell at Notts County.

The young striker certainly seems to be attracting lots of interest, if reports are to be believed, so it seems likely he will be another player who heads for the exit door before the end of the summer window.
