Sky Sports claim that Croatia defender Josip Juranovic is keen on a move to Celtic.

The Legia Warsaw defender played last night in Champions League qualifying, with Dinamo emerging as victors over the Polish side [Total Croatia News]. The Croatian right-back, who featured at Euro 2020, is now looking elsewhere, according to Sky Sports.

The report states that Juranovic would be available for close to £2.5m. It’s a considerably cheaper move than one for Aurelio Buta, which is now off the cards.

At 25, Juranovic has already had an impressive career. A Polish champion with Legia Warsaw, the former Hajduk Split defender has 10 caps for his country [Transfermarkt].

Reports emerged linking Celtic to the Croatian international two weeks ago. With an impressive passing range, Juranovic already boasts one assist from Champions League qualifying thus far.

Despite the resurgence of Anthony Ralston in recent weeks, it’s clear the Bhoys still need an international-quality right-back. Since Mikael Lustig, only Jeremie Frimpong has truly held down the right-back slot, and that wasn’t for too long.

Croatia right-back Josip Juranovic reportedly keen on Celtic approach

After yesterday’s news about Aurelio Buta, it’d be a huge surprise to see Celtic land the Portuguese defender.

No matter, provided Celtic go after Juranovic. For Croatia, the Legia Warsaw man has been a force at either end of the pitch. Capable of playing across the defence, or further up, Juranovic’s crossing ability would give Celtic an extra dimension in attack.

Not that he’s a slouch in defence, either. An able tackler and excellent reader of the game, Juranovic would represent a significant upgrade. That’s no harm to Anthony Ralston, either.

On international duty, it’s fair to say Juranovic is an effective contributor. He’s managed as many as 2 tackles per 90 on the right, while his dribbling stats whilst on the ball are considerable [WhoScored?].

On the evidence of what we’ve seen so far, Ange Postecoglou wants mobile defenders who can win the ball, and just as importantly, do something with it in possession immediately after.

The 25-year-old Croatian Juranovic would do that for Celtic. Cheaper than Buta, and with international pedigree, this seems like a no-brainer.
