Sheffield Wednesday are looking to sign Celtic defender Stephen Welsh on loan until the end of the season, The Scotsman has reported this evening.
Wednesday are making a push for promotion in English League One and manager Darren Moore want the Bhoys prospect to help out.
Welsh has struggled for game time this season and while defensive competitor Moritz Jenz has left the club, Yuki Kobayashi has arrived from Japan and looks ahead of him in the pecking order.

Teams from Italy and France have been linked with Welsh in the past, while The Scotsman adds in their report that other teams in England and Scotland are also monitoring his situation ahead of the transfer deadline.
Football Scotland have additionally reported that teams from Major League Soccer are also showing interest.
Ange Postecoglou stated late last week that Welsh was ‘not likely’ to leave but, as you know, players’ situations can take turns quickly in the run-up to deadline day.
A loan could be good for the 23-year-old ahead of a renewed summer bid to make it into Postecoglou’s thinking.
Significant game time and the confidence gained from a successful loan would surely be better than sitting on the sidelines.
However, Celtic may well determine that Welsh is needed for cover in the event of defensive injuries.
The Owls currently sit second in League One, three points behind league leaders Plymouth Argyle and four points ahead of the playoff hopefuls. Crucially, they hold a game in hand on most of their competition.
With time running out for clubs to deals, it’ll be interesting to see if an approach is made that is to Celtic’s and Welsh’s liking.
